Preparing for your family or beach portraits - Heather Johnson Photography - Charleston, SC
I hope you’re excited about your upcoming beach or Outdoor portrait session! To ensure we capture the best possible photos, here are a few tips to help you prepare. We enjoy shooting at 42 avenue on Isle of palms or near Folly Beach park if you are interested in a folly beach portrait. if you are doing a beach session, we find there is less people at this location and there is parking as well.
Weather:
Outdoor Portraits in Charleston, SC or Beach Portraits there are things you may want to consider. Beach or Outside portraits are often beautiful but there are factors that play into your experience of your portrait session. The weather is often something to keep in mind that it rains in Charleston, sc and there are wind factors to consider as well. If you are having a beach session wind, rain, and tides are something you should be aware of.
Clothing:
Soft, neutral, or pastel colors work beautifully in a beach setting or outdoor portraits jeans, green, reds, coral colors are some of my favorites. Flowy fabrics can add a nice touch. Avoid busy patterns or logos that might distract from the natural scenery.
Time and Light:
We will aim to shoot during the “golden hour,” or sunrise 1 hour just after sunrise or before sunset when the lighting is soft and flattering. Please arrive a few minutes early so we can make the most of this time. Our sessions are 1 hour before sunset or 1 hour after Sunrise. We do not deviate from this time especially for beach session.
Footwear:
barefoot often works best for beach sessions. You can always bring your shoes and decide on the spot. Outdoor downtown wear shoes or sandals.
Hair and Makeup:
A natural look is usually best for beach portraits, but feel free to style as you feel comfortable. Be prepared for some wind, so you may want to bring some hairpins or clips. Professional makeup and hair services can add a nice touch to your portrait session.
Props:
If you have any personal items you’d like to include, such as hats, blankets, or special family items, feel free to bring them along.
